Protecting What Makes Franklin Special

Franklin is our home. We raised our children here, started a business here, and built our life in this community. I’m running to help protect the safety, stability, trust, and character that make this Village feel like home.

Meet Dr. Cassius Drake

Cassius Drake is a physician and local business owner. He and his wife, Jacqueline, have lived in Franklin for 17 years, raised two sons here, and founded The Drake Center.

His community service includes coaching Little League, serving on his HOA board, and serving on Franklin’s Planning Commission.

Priorities

Safety, Trust, and Stability

Safety, trust, and continuity help Franklin feel like home. I supported the police millage. Our police, fire services, and Village staff need resources, stable leadership, respect, and support, with clear responsibilities and accountability.

Financial Stewardship and Transparency

Public trust requires clear answers and follow-through. When something goes wrong, I will ask hard questions, insist on corrective action, and report what can responsibly be shared with residents. I support stronger financial controls, verification, cybersecurity, and Council oversight. Following police-millage approval, Council should review the general-fund millage and examine spending first, considering additional revenue only when necessary to protect essential services.

Thoughtful Planning and Preservation

Keep Franklin wooded, quiet, and low-density. Respect property rights, clear rules, and meaningful public input. Handle minor matters efficiently; review significant changes carefully. Test improvements by asking: Does this improve Franklin without diminishing what makes Franklin Franklin?

Why I'm Running

Franklin has a quiet, almost intangible quality that drew many of us here and keeps us here. It is a sense of peace, safety, community, history, and belonging that can be easier to feel than to define. That quality is precious, and I believe it has to be protected.

Public safety is part of that protection. So are the people working in the Village office, the stewardship of public resources, and the decisions we make about Franklin’s future.

Supporting Village staff and holding our government accountable are responsibilities that go together.

We may not always agree on what that future should look like. Some people emphasize Franklin’s historic character. Others emphasize accessibility, family life, and community connection. Underneath those differences, I believe many of us are trying to protect different aspects of the same place.

I am running because I want our children to inherit a Franklin that still possesses the qualities that made us choose it as home. That means honoring what generations before us built while guiding the Village thoughtfully, wisely, and steadily into the future.

Professional Leadership

Dr. Drake spent two decades in emergency medicine, serving as medical director of the Henry Ford Brownstown emergency department. Caring for patients and leading teams taught him to listen, collaborate, solve problems, and remain calm under pressure.

He remains a physician and medical director at The Drake Center in Franklin.

Public Service

Cassius has served on Franklin’s Planning Commission and his neighborhood HOA board, and volunteered as an assistant coach with Franklin Baseball Little League.

He also volunteered at his sons’ school as a forensics judge, water polo scorekeeper, and swim team announcer.

Community Roots

Dr. Drake has called the Village of Franklin home for 17 years.

He and Jacqueline raised their two sons in the community, participating in local schools, sports, music, village events, and family activities. Both boys played Franklin Baseball Little League, where Dr. Drake served as an assistant coach.

Over the years, Dr. Drake participated in many Village of Franklin events, especially those connected to The Jacqueline Drake Gallery — A Journey Within the Art, where concerts, workshops, fundraisers, open mic nights, art events, and community gatherings brought people together in downtown Franklin.

He has been a strong advocate for Main Street Franklin, the Franklin Community Association, local business, civic engagement, and preserving the heart of the Village.
